Pro-nuclear alliance demonstrates in Berlin

In Deutsch: Kernkraft statt Krise: Pro-Atom-Bündnis demonstriert in Berlin

An alliance of pro-nuclear activists will gather in front of the Brandenburg Gate on Saturday, November 19, 2022, from 2 to 3 pm. Under the motto “Nuclear power instead of crisis”, there will be performances, music and demands for the permanent use of nuclear energy at the Platz des 18. März.

Installations, performance, speaker

Installations visualize the importance of nuclear power for energy security and climate protection. The highlight of the event is a performance in which the “NetZero” team competes against the “Fossil Skunks” team in a tug-of-war.

Also on stage: technology historian and blogger Anna Veronika Wendland, who recently published the bestseller “Atomkraft? Yes please!”.

Meet the alliance

Participating organizations include the German association Nuklearia e. V., the Party of Humanists, the Polish NGO FOTA4Climate, and the international NGOs RePlanet, Mothers for Nuclear and Voices of Nuclear.

Despite different approaches, they all see nuclear energy as a key technology that we need in the long term to live safely and comfortably while protecting the climate. Together, they call for overturning Germany’s nuclear phase-out, saving the last nuclear power plants, and building new ones as well.

Before and after the core program from 2 to 3 p.m., there will be plenty of opportunity to get information, make contacts or conduct interviews at the participating organization’s booths. The alliance partners will be on site from 1-4 p.m. in total.

Unlimited Nuclear Power

Rainer Klute, Chairman of Nuklearia e. V.: “The extension of the operating lives of nuclear power plants over the winter until April 15, 2023 is a good start, but nothing more. What will be different on April 16? What about next winter and the winter after that? Energy crises and the economic crisis are not over in the spring – not to mention the climate crisis. Nuclear energy can mitigate all these crises in the short term and solve them in the long term. That’s why we need an unlimited lifetime extension. We should also reactivate the three power plants that were taken off the grid last year. In the medium term, we need to build new nuclear power plants so we can build a truly reliable, self-sustaining and practically emissions-free energy supply.”
